Burial markers and other cemetery memorial art often display a variety of messages that allow us to understand our cultural values, beliefs, and societal norms over time. Some messages take the form of epitaphs or verbal descriptions of deceased individuals, but much of what is communicated is accomplished through the use of an elaborate vocabulary of visual symbols or icons.
Join us on November 4th to learn more about cemetery iconography with a concentration on symbols found in the historic Warrenton Cemetery.
Admission is free, but a donation is suggested. All donations go towards the Friends of the Warrenton Cemetery Foundation.
