5 Friday Fauquier factoids: $91,000 median income
Indicative of Fauquier’s high median household income: New homes in the Brookside subdivision near New Baltimore typically sell for $500,000 to $600,000.
Fauquier County’s 2015 median household income, according to a report the Census Bureau released Wednesday.
That ranks eighth in Virginia. (See table at bottom of story).
Neighboring Loudoun County remains the “richest” locality in Virginia, with 2015 median household income of $125,900, according to the Census Bureau.
Virginia has six of the top 20 nationwide: Loudoun, Falls Church City (#2), Fairfax County (#3), Arlington County (#4), Fairfax City (#15) and Prince William County (#16).
Median represents the midpoint, with half above and half below.
Fauquier traffic accidents in 2016 that involved distracted driving, according to the sheriff’s office. Those accidents resulted in five fatalities and 172 injuries.
For the first quarter of this year, 88 traffic accidents that involved distracted driving took place in the county, resulting in one fatality and 46 injuries.
Revenue the Warrenton-Fauquier Visitor Center generated from meeting room rentals during fiscal 2017, which ended July 1.
During the previous fiscal year, rental fees generated $5,945 for the two meeting rooms.
The center at 33 N. Calhoun St. charges businesses and private parties $150 a day per room; nonprofits pay $35 per day. Local government may use the rooms at no cost.
The two rooms can accommodate up to 20 and 80 people, respectively.
County government and constitutional office employees with more than 25 years of service.
Circuit Court Clerk Gail Barb tops the list with 46 years with the office, followed by Commissioner of Revenue Chief Deputy Donna Shipe with 45 years and sheriff’s Sgt. Major Robert Wines with 43 years.
In their honor, the county hosted a June 29 lunch at McMahon’s Irish Pub & Restaurant in Warrenton. The meal cost $672.
Female law enforcement officers work in Fauquier County.
The county sheriff’s office has 12 sworn female officers and the Warrenton Police Department has one, according to the Virginia State Police annual report on crime in the commonwealth.

You would think with such a high median income we could pay our cops, teachers, and firefighters a little more to compensate for the high cost of living in the county--but we don't, especially compared to surrounding localities. It's a disgrace.

Regarding the number of accidents, almost every Sunday, there is an accident at the route29-Vint Hill light. Couldn't the electronic sign at Baldwin Drive post a message about congestion ahead, watch for slowing traffic.
