Costume at Work contest winners announced

Lily, FauquierNow.com marketing department intern.
Thanks to everyone who submitted photos for the Halloween Costume at Work contest. We have included all of the photos in the slideshow above.

With so many excellent entries, it was nearly impossible to pick winners.

Frustrated and confused, we tasked our Marketing Department intern, Lily, with the final decisions.

First Place Winner - Pumpkin Pi

The Auburn Middle School math department proves that a little duct tape and a lot of creativity can indeed be a winning combination.

Dressed as "Pumpkin Pi," they win a $50 gift certificate to Red Truck Bakery in Warrenton.

"When alone, we were just pieces of Pi," says Ana Teller, who submitted the photo (see slideshow, above).

Initially, this entry was nearly disqualified from the judging because the math teachers' costume is, technically, incorrect. Rounded properly, pi should be 3.1415927, not 3.1415926. But Lily loves pie and is willing to overlook the error.

Update: Ana Teller's response:

Just so everyone is clear, we would have rounded but we didn’t know how many more pieces were going to participate, and one piece (the 6) was leaving early, which means we would have had to then round the 2! Whew! I guess if we had really thought about it, we should have added ellipses at the end…

Second Place Winner - Day of the Dead

Carol Jordan's artistic ability and cultural appreciation for the Day of the Dead celebration earns her a $25 gift certificate to Red Truck Bakery.

Carol works at Media Box Studios in Warrenton.

Lily thinks Carol's face makeup reminds her a little of her own face.

Honorable Mention - Blues Brothers

Gloria Buchanan, Joan Southard and Cindy Dodson at the Remington branch of BB&T.

These women just look like they're having a good time.

Honorable Mention - Chuckie

Alexis Schmidt, a self-employed daycare provider.

We hope all of the children got home yesterday in one piece.
