5 Friday Fauquier factoids: Municipal office space

Cubicles define office space in Warrenton’s Town Hall, the former Fauquier Bank building at 18 Court St.

Usable square feet the Town of Warrenton has for administrative offices. That includes Town Hall at 18 Court St. and rented office space at 19 Culpeper St.

Twenty-three employees, including the town manager and members of the finance, human resources and community development departments, occupy those offices.

The town also has offices at the Warrenton Aquatic and Recreational Facility, the police department and public works and utilities building.

Warrenton recently advertised for proposals to study its office space needs in the next 20 years.


The number of mental health calls to which Fauquier sheriff’s deputies had responded to this year as of Thursday morning.

All patrol deputies and 9-1-1 dispatchers complete the 40-hour CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) training.

The course trains dispatchers “to identify mental disturbance calls and assign these calls to CIT trained officers. CIT officers are trained to uses de-escalation techniques if necessary and assess if referral to services or transport for mental health evaluation is appropriate.”

Warrenton police officers also undergo CIT training,


To date, the inches of rain that have fallen in Warrenton since January, according to the town’s public works department.

Warrenton’s typical, annual rainfall total averages 44 inches.

About 53.7 percent of this year’s total, or 24.7 inches, has fallen in the last 90 days.


Percentage of unemployed Fauquier residents in July, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That equals 2,153 people.

Virginia’s unemployment rate stood at 3.1 percent that month.

Among the state’s 95 counties, Arlington had the lowest unemployment rate at 1.9 percent and Buchanan in Southwest Virginia had the highest at 5.8 percent for July.

Fauquier’s unemployment rate has steadily declined since a 2010 high of 6.2 percent, according to the Virginia Employment Commission.


The number of reported accidents at Fifth and Main streets in Old Town Warrenton during the last five years — since September 2013.

No pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle in that intersection, according to data from the Warrenton Police Department.

The town has begun a two-week project to construct “bump-outs” to improve visibility at the intersection, making it easier for motorists and pedestrians to see one another.
