5 Friday Fauquier factoids: School bus routing costs

Fauquier’s public school system spends about $69,000 a year to lease software that routes and tracks school buses.
The five-year lease costs for Fauquier County Public Schools’ transportation management software system, which expires in March 2018.

The system creates routes and tracks buses and other school vehicles. The transportation department recommends the school board purchase a new system with improved technology for $150,085 when the lease expires.

Fauquier County parcels Wampler-Eanes Appraisal Group Ltd. will value for tax purposes.

As of March 1, the Daleville-based company had visited 11,537 parcels.

Fauquier will pay the company $804,400 — or $23 per parcel — for the work.

Wampler-Eanes also will appraise 410 mobile homes.

The appraisal process will be completed in September.

County real estate owners will be notified of their new property values in early October.

Dissatisfied property owners may appeal the new values to the Board of Assessors, the Board of Equalization and Fauquier’s circuit court — in that order.

The new values will take effect Jan. 1, 2018.

Fauquier reassesses the county’s real estate every four years.

$3.3 million

Amount of delinquent personal property taxes due from 1991 through 2016, according to the Fauquier County treasurer’s office.

The number of delinquent accounts for that period totals 10,001.

Under state law, a 10-percent late payment penalty and an annual 10-percent interest fee — calculated monthly — get added to all balances not paid or postmarked by Oct. 5.

Personal property includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, campers, boats and machinery and tools.

The amount Community Touch Inc. collected with its annual auction March 11. The Bealeton nonprofit organization provides transitional housing, food, clothing and furniture for the needy in Fauquier.

The average number of bushels of corn per acre harvested in Fauquier County last year, according to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
