5 Friday Fauquier factoids: SPCA places 840 animals
The Fauquier SPCA Facebook page recently featured Ford, a 3-year-old healed up and ready for adoption after a car hit him.
Animals adopted last year from the Fauquier SPCA shelter near Casanova in Southern Fauquier.
Last year’s adoptions included 407 cats and 381 dogs.
Families and individuals in 2017 also adopted 15 Guinea pigs, 12 domesticated birds, nine rabbits, a goat, snake, ferret and hamster.
Big Macs sold at the Warrenton McDonald’s on its grand reopening Wednesday, April 4. The restaurant that day also sold 116 Quarter Pounder burgers.
The popular fast-food restaurant reopened this week along Broadview Avenue after 97 days of demolition and renovation, costing more than $1 million.
The restaurant recorded 1,249 transactions on Wednesday.
Vendor applications the town received for the 43rd season of the Warrenton Farmer’s Market.
Vendors sell produce, flowers, baked goods, meat and other items at the market that runs Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to September.
The Saturday farmer’s market, in the parking lot at Lee and Fifth streets, opens for the season April 14.
The Wednesday market at the Warrenton Aquatics and Recreation Facility opens May 2. Both markets operate from 8 a.m. to noon.
Amount Fauquier spent from March 2017 to March 2018 on the county board of supervisors’ “working lunches.”
That equates to $216 a month to feed the five-member panel and staff meets.
The board meets the second Thursday of the month in the Warren Green Building. Lunch — an open meeting by state law — takes place in the second-floor conference room.
The estimated amount that visitors to Sky Meadows State Park near Paris spent in 2017.
That includes expenditures inside and outside the park, primarily from those who made day trips to the 1,860-acre park along Route 17 in Northern Fauquier.
A Virginia Tech professor conducted the annual survey, detailing spending and the economic of Virginia’s 37 state parks, and released the results in January.
