Best Bets: Breakfast with Santa, “The Nutcracker”

About 50 Living Christmas Tree singers will perform Thursday through Sunday.
Holiday festivities continue this weekend in Fauquier. Topping the list, the Lasley Centre for Performing Arts presents a live ballet performance of “The Nutcracker.”

Other entertaining events include performances of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” The Living Christmas Tree choir, Warrenton’s Gumdrop Square and two options for breakfast with Santa.

“The Polar Express” movie and craft night
5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8
6480 College Street, Warrenton

Lord Fairfax Community College’s Warrenton campus hosts a children’s movie and craft night. Children of all ages can watch “The Polar Express” movie and eat pizza, build a gingerbread house, decorate gingerbread men, and paint ornaments in The Barn. Free.

Gumdrop Square
6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10

Experience Old Town Warrenton hosts the annual Gumdrop Square holiday event where children can get photos with Santa and shop for small, $2 gifts at Santa’s Secret Workshop. From 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 citizens can take a horse-drawn carriage ride down Main Street, listen to carolers and explore shops. Mrs. Claus will read holiday stories to children at VonCanon General Store at 92 Main St. during Gumdrop Square hours. Free.

Living Christmas Tree
7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7-8
4 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-10

For the 17th year, singers from the community and several local churches will form a giant Christmas tree at Warrenton United Methodist Church. Fifty vocalists will sing Christmas favorites and a skit, based on the story of Scrooge, will be performed in between. Free tickets may be reserved online. Tickets available at the door, but not guaranteed. Free.

“Fruitcakes” at Fauquier Community Theatre
7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9
2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10

The Fauquier Community Theatre presents its Christmas play, “Fruitcakes.” The comical, family-friendly Christmas play takes place in a small Georgia town called McCord’s Ferry. The heart-warming tale highlights the true spirit of Christmas and forgiveness when a runaway steals a fruitcake in the close-knit town. Adults, $17; children ages 3 to 18 and seniors 60+, $15. Tickets available online or by calling 540-349-8760.

Breakfast with Santa at Remington Lion’s Club
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9
11326 James Madison Highway, Bealeton

The Remington Lion’s Club hosts an all-you-can-eat breakfast with Santa. Children can get their photo taken with Santa and receive a free vision screening. Adults ages 12 and older, $8; children ages 6 to 11, $6; children 5 and younger, free.

“The Nutcracker”
4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-10
705 Waterloo Road, Warrenton

The Lasley Centre for the Performing Arts presents its fifth year of the full-length production of “The Nutcracker.” The holiday tradition with live ballet takes place at Fauquier High School. Following the performance, audience members can meet cast members and visit a sweet shop and the “Nutcracker Boutique” to purchase souvenirs. Adults, $25; children 12 and younger, and seniors 65+, $20.

“It’s a Wonderful Life”
7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9
2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10
244 Waterloo Street, Warrenton

A cast of more than 30 local citizens perform in the beloved holiday classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” This version depicts a live 1940s radio broadcast of the story. The Windmore Foundation for the Arts present the play at Warrenton Middle School. Tickets, $10 in advance online or $12 at the door.

Breakfast with Santa in Remington
8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Dec. 10
200 E Marshall St., Remington

The Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department hosts breakfast with Santa at the firehouse. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, fried potatoes and onions, spiced apples, biscuits and gravy, coffee, tea, and juice. Citizens who bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots will receive a free breakfast. Ages 6 and older, $9.
