Best Bets: Dog pool party, Piedmont Harvest Fest

Man’s best friend can splash and play at the Vint Hill dog swim Saturday.
Liberty High School will hold a Sock Hop dance Saturday to benefit the school’s band program.
Topping Fauquier’s entertainment options, canine companions will get to splash, play and jump in the pool at Vint Hill this Saturday during the annual dog swim.

Other Fauquier activities include a 1950’s themed sock hop fundraiser to benefit the Liberty High School band, the Piedmont Harvest Festival, Bluegrass music and a walking tour of trees in Old Town Warrenton.

Piedmont Harvest Fest
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9

The Fauquier Chamber of Commerce hosts the event that connects the business community with citizens. The event features vendors, demonstrations, animals, food, face painting, local businesses and other activities at the Fauquier fairgrounds. Free.

Dog’s day pool party
1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9
4248 Bludau Drive, Warrenton

Fauquier County Parks and Recreation hosts the annual dog swim at Vint Hill’s Larry Weeks Community Pool. Dogs must wear a leash upon entering and exiting the complex and must have current vaccination and county license tags. Handlers must be 16 years or older. No humans allowed in the pool. Proceeds benefit youth swim programs. $6 per dog.

Sock Hop at Liberty High School
7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9
6300 Independence Ave., Bealeton

The Silver Tones Swing Band will perform at Liberty High School in Bealeton for a fundraiser dance. Attendees are invited to wear 1950’s and 60’s attire including poodle skirts and leather jackets. The event includes a free dance lesson, silent auction, raffle, contests and refreshments. Proceeds benefit the LHS band program. $10 per person.

Sunday with the library: Secrets of trees
2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10
2 Courthouse Square, Warrenton

Nancy Ross Hugo, author of several gardening, tree and floral design books will discuss unfamiliar features of popular trees. The Fauquier County Master Gardeners will lead a walking tour of local trees in Old Town Warrenton after the discussion. Free.

Bluegrass music at Eva Walker Park
2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10
130 Haiti St., Warrenton

Musicians will gather at Eva Walker Park to play Bluegrass music with the guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, Dobro and bass. Slow jam from 2 to 3 p.m. Regular jam, 3 to 5 p.m. All levels of players welcome. Free.
