Best Bets: Swing dance, “Christmas Carol” musical

Veteran’s Day weekend features performances of “A Christmas Carol” and a swing dance, among other entertainment.
Topping the list of events this Veteran’s Day weekend, the Silver Tones Swing band presents a dance to honor military members and raise funds for Liberty High School’s band program.

Also on the entertainment list, Allegro Community School for the Arts presents its opening weekend of “A Christmas Carol.”

Other Fauquier options include holiday bazaars, a family movie night and opera singers.

Harvest and holiday bazaar
4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9
9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10

First Baptist Church in Warrenton hosts its annual two-day bazaar. Vendors will sell handmade crafts, food, jewelry, ornaments, soaps and other items. The church will have fried chicken, fish and other meals dine in or take out available for purchase. Meal prices vary. Free admission to event.



Family movie night: “Jumanji”
6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10
4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton

Fauquier County Parks and Recreation present the movie, “Jumanji” at the Vint Hill community theatre. The movie follows four teenagers who get sucked into a jungle-themed video game. Rated PG-13. $3 per person.

Swing dance
7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10
6300 Independence Ave., Bealeton

The Silver Tones Swing Band will return to Liberty High School to host a fundraiser for the school’s band program. Attendees are invited to dress in vintage swing attire or military uniform to celebrate Veteran’s Day weekend. The event includes a complimentary dance lesson, refreshments, a silent auction and raffle prizes. $10 per person.

“A Christmas Carol”

The Allegro Community Players present the classic play in musical form at the Fauquier High School auditorium. Adapted from Charles Dickens’ most well known story, the play includes all the famous characters: Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit, among others. General admission, $15 per person; Seniors 65+ and children ages 4-10, $10; children 3 and younger, free. Tickets available online or by calling 540-349-5088.

Grace Church concert series
5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11
6507 Main St., The Plains

The Domingo-Cafritz Youth Artists will perform music inspired by the effects of war including popular WWI era songs and operatic pieces. In its 17th season, the program guides young singers and pianists/coaches on the verge of international careers. Tickets online: Adults, $25; students $15.
