Christmas musical, sing-along top weekend best bets

The community theatre presents the last weekend of a bluegrass gospel Christmas musical.
The Silver Tones Swing Band hosts a holiday swing dance in Marshall.
The final weekend before Christmas boasts several entertaining events in Fauquier.

The community theatre presents the last weekend of its bluegrass Christmas musical and the Warrenton Community Center hosts a sing-along.

Other events include a swing dance in Marshall, a live nativity near Catlett, GumDrop Square in Warrenton and a showing of “The Polar Express” at Fauquier High School.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17
1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18

This Warrenton tradition features beautiful decorations and a visit and one complimentary photo with Santa. Afterward, children can shop for $2 gifts and have them wrapped. Free admission. Open every weekend from Dec. 2 to 18.

“Sanders Family Christmas” at the community theatre
8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16-17
2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18

The Fauquier Community Theatre presents “Sanders Family Christmas.” The bluegrass gospel musical takes place on Christmas Eve 1941, as America and Dennis Sanders prepare to enter World War II. Pastor Mervin Oglethorpe and the rest of the Sanders family send Dennis off with hilarious, touching stories and 25 Southern gospel Christmas favorites. Tickets available online. Adults, $18; seniors 60+, $16; children 3 to 18 years old, $16.

Holiday sing-along
10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17

The Warrenton Community Center hosts holiday singing and dancing with Crescendo Music. Santa and his elf will visit for singing and photos. Citizens are asked to bring Campbell’s Chunky Soup, diapers or wipes for local charities.

Live Nativity
6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17

Mount Horeb United Methodist Church will host a live nativity scene. Costumes provided for children who want to become part of the Christmas story. Beverages and baked goods, crafts and caroling included. Free.

Swing into the Holidays
7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17
4133 Rectortown Road, Marshall

The Silver Tones Swing Band will hold a holiday dance at the Marshall Community Center. The 17-piece band will play holiday favorites including “Jingle Bells” and “Let It Snow.” Swing dance lesson and refreshments included. $10 per person at the door.

The Polar Express Interactive Experience
3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18
705 Waterloo Road, Warrenton

Fauquier High School will play the popular holiday movie, “The Polar Express” in the falcon room. Crafts for children, an elf party, hot chocolate and cookies and a visit from Santa included. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit the FHS band and orchestra. $6 per person.
