County supervisors mull Vint Hill data center plan

Fauquier’s board of supervisors Thursday will conduct a public hearing on a proposal to attract data centers to Vint Hill.

The county planning commission on Oct. 18 unanimously recommended approval of applicant EFO Capital Management Inc.’s request for an additional 751,265 square feet of buildings on the former Army base near New Baltimore.

The supervisors will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Warren Green Building at 10 Hotel St. in Warrenton.

The proposed 24.2-percent increase would apply to only data center and government uses on 124 acres at Aiken Drive and Kennedy Road.

The commission serves as an advisory panel to the board, which has final authority.

Vint Hill has approval for 3.1 million square feet of nonresidential structures. To date, 850,000 square feet has been constructed at the former 695-acre property.

In other matters Thursday, the board will:

• After a public hearing, decide whether to condemn land belonging to Lynn A. Pirozzoli on Meetze Road to complete drainage and road improvements related to the planned Central Sports Complex southeast of Warrenton.

Not in recent memory has Fauquier used the power of “eminent domain” to take private property.

The county has made a “bona fide” offer of $12,452 to Ms. Pirozzoli for the 7,709 square feet needed from her adjacent Black Horse Inn to do the work.

But she has refused to convey the property to Fauquier.

The board Thursday night will act on a resolution that would authorize Fauquier to enter onto and take the property before or during condemnation proceedings.

• Decide whether to authorize County Administrator Paul S. McCulla to take steps necessary for Fauquier to transfer 50 acres to the Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation.

The county-owned land lies adjacent to LFCC’s Fauquier campus just south of Warrenton. The proposed 50-acre addition would double the size of the campus, which began offering classes there in 1988.

Plans for the parcel would include a trades skills center.

• Receive an update on Fauquier’s efforts to expand broadband internet service to unserved and underserved and areas of the county.
