GumDrop Square, Pizza Claus, parades top best bets

GumDrop Square and Santa’s Secret Shop opens in Warrenton following the parade Friday night.
The Fauquier Community Theatre presents the opening weekend of the musical “Sanders Family Christmas.”
Santa will visit children at the red caboose on the Warrenton Greenway Saturday.
The holiday season begins in Fauquier this weekend with Santa visits, parades and musical performances.

Three Christmas parades kick off a long list of entertainment and family fun.

The Warrenton Christmas parade takes place at 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, Marshall’s parade down Main Street begins at 11 a.m. and Bealeton’s holiday procession starts at 1 p.m.

Other activities include the Warrenton Chorale, a performance of “The Nutcracker,” big band holiday music, pizza with Santa, “Elf Jr.,” and a Christmas musical at the community theatre.

This Warrenton tradition features beautiful decorations and a visit and one complimentary photo with Santa. Afterward, children can shop for $2 gifts and have them wrapped. Free admission. Open every weekend from Dec. 2 to 18.

Warrenton Chorale Christmas in Music

The Warrenton Chorale presents two weekend concerts featuring Christmas favorites at Warrenton United Methodist Church. The 85-member chorale, youth choir and handbell players will also play perform traditional songs including “The First Noel” and “12 Days of Christmas.” Suggested donations, $15 for adults, $5 for children. Tickets sold in advance at Great Harvest Bread, g. whillikers Toys and Books, New Baltimore Animal Hospital and Red Truck Bakery in Warrenton and Marshall and at the door.

“Sanders Family Christmas” at the community theatre

The Fauquier Community Theatre presents “Sanders Family Christmas.” The bluegrass gospel musical takes place on Christmas Eve 1941, as America and Dennis Sanders prepare to enter World War II. Pastor Mervin Oglethorpe and the rest of the Sanders family send Dennis off with hilarious, touching stories and 25 Southern gospel Christmas favorites. Tickets available online. Adults, $18; seniors 60+, $16; children 3 to 18 years old, $16.

Pizza Claus
4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3
11240 James Madison Highway, Remington

The Remington American Legion Post 247 hosts pizza with Santa. Children 12 and younger receive a free photo, slice of pizza and juice. Adults, $2. Donations accepted.

Santa at the Caboose
5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3
South Fourth Street, Warrenton

Santa will greet children at the red caboose at the head of the Warrenton Branch Greenway. The event includes cookies, hot chocolate, carolers and toasted marshmallows. Free.

“Elf Jr.” by Allegro
6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3
2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4

Allegro Community School of the Arts presents the musical “Elf Jr.” at Warrenton Middle School. Based on the popular holiday movie, “Elf”, the musical follows Buddy, an orphan raised as an elf, who goes on a journey to New York City to find his father. Adults, $10; children 4 and younger, $5; seniors 65+, $5.

Lasley Centre presents “The Nutcracker”
6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3
4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4

The Lasley Centre for the Performing Arts presents its fifth annual full-length ballet production of “The Nutcracker.” Following the performance, attendees can speak to cast members and purchase gourmet treats and souvenir items. Performances held at Fauquier High School. Adults, $25; children and seniors, $20 at the door.

Big Band Holiday Extravaganza
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3
350 East Shirley Ave., Warrenton

The Silver Tones Swing Band hosts a holiday concert at Taylor Middle School. The 17-piece band will play seasonal favorites including “Let It Snow,” “Jingle Bells,” “Santa Baby” and other classics from the 1940s and 50s. The Blue Ridge Barbershoppers will sing. Desserts served at intermission. Adults, $15 at the door; children 12 and younger, $5.
