Midland man, 19, dies Friday night in crash

A 19-year-old Midland man died in a traffic accident Friday night near Catlett.

Steven Michael Kendall rode in the back seat of a 2006 Ford Focus that ran a stop sign on Burwell Road (Route 604) at Dumfries Road (Route 605), according to state police Sgt. Les Tyler.

A 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV traveling on Dumfries Road hit the northbound car at 10:09 p.m. Both vehicles overturned, Sgt. Tyler said.

Ejected from the car, Mr. Kendall died at the scene. The 2017 Liberty High School graduate did not wear a seatbelt, according to state police.

Trooper T.B. Ralls continues to investigate the accident, which injured two other people.

Fauquier sheriff’s deputies and fire/rescue units also responded to the crash.

That's kind of an odd intersection because you approach it uphill and if you don't see the stop sign, you won't see Rt 605 until you're right on it.

25 years ago, somebody had stolen the stop sign and I blew through that intersection at 45 MPH. That was in broad daylight. Guess I got lucky. I think about that day every time I drive past the intersection.

Maybe it needs some rumble strips, or something.

Sad. Rest in peace, Mr. Kendall.
