Motorcyclist impersonated sheriff’s deputy in Orlean

Fauquier sheriff’s investigators seek help in identifying a motorcyclist who impersonated a deputy Thursday morning in the Orlean area.

The sheriff’s office issued this press release Friday:

A citizen reported an aggressive encounter with an unidentified male in the Orlean area of Fauquier County on Thursday morning, March 9, at approximately 9:45 a.m. The unidentified male was operating a blue sport-style motorcycle on Leeds Manor Road in the Village of Orlean at the time of the encounter.

The reporting citizen was driving south on Leeds Manor Road, following a large truck when the motorcycle was observed in the rear-view mirror. The rider was waving his arms and acting aggressively.

When the citizen stopped at the Orlean post office, he was approached by the rider who identified himself as “Deputy Jones.” This individual did not specify a law enforcement agency nor did he produce law enforcement identification. This individual is described as acting very aggressively during the encounter.

This individual is further described at a clean-shaven white male in his mid-30s, average height and weight, wearing sunglasses and a bright blue open-faced style helmet. He was operating a brightly painted, medium blue sport-style motorcycle with two headlights and a small windshield.

Investigation leads to the indication the described individual may be impersonating a law enforcement officer. If anyone can identify this individual or has observed this motorcycle they are encouraged to contact the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office at 540-347-3300.
