Old-time string band, yoga party top weekend best bets

The five-member string band, Bigfoot, will perform at Drum & Strum in Warrenton Saturday night.
The first, frigid weekend of 2018 features several entertaining options such as a string band concert from Bigfoot at Drum & Strum in Warrenton.

Relaxing activities include yoga at Old Bust Head Brewery near New Baltimore, Zen meditation near Delaplane and a photography exhibit in Middleburg.

The Horse and the Camera photography exhibit
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to Sunday, Jan. 5-7

This exhibit at the National Sporting Library & Museum shows a brief timeline of vintage and antique black-and-white horse photos from the private collection of Judith and Jo Tartt, Jr. Adults, $10; youth ages 13 to 18 and seniors 65+, $8; children 12 and younger, free.

Zen meditation near Delaplane
7 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6
9668 Maidstone Road, Delaplane

A small group meditates and for 30 to 45 minutes at Emmanuel Episcopal Church near Delaplane each Saturday morning. $20 donation to the church suggested.

Bigfoot string band at Drum & Strum
8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6
102 Main Street, Warrenton

This old-time string band will perform songs from the Appalachians and the Midwest on the fiddle, guitar, banjo and bass. Bigfoot has toured, recorded, performed and taught throughout the United States. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. $25 per person. Seating limited. Advanced purchase recommended.

New Year Yoga Party
10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7

Old Bust Head Brewing Company hosts a yoga party to start the new year. Instructor Pattie Bounds will lead citizens of all experience levels in vinyasa flow style yoga (uniting the body, breath and mind through a series of postures and movements). $12 per person. Registration online.
