Remington Fall Festival, Orlean Day among best bets

Fauquier’s busiest weekend in October features two book festivals and numerous fall activities.

The Remington Fall Festival tops the list with more than six hours of entertainment and family fun on Saturday. Orlean celebrates its 202nd anniversary of becoming a village on Saturday.

Other options include the community theatre play “1776 The Musical,” the Fauquier Farm Tour, a health fair in Marshall and the annual Children’s Festival near Midland.

The Fauquier County Public Library hosts their third annual author fair held at the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church. More than 30 local authors will discuss, sign and sell their books. Free.

“1776 The Musical”
7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14
2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15

The Fauquier Community Theatre presents “1776 The Musical.” Based on the Broadway show that won three Tony Awards, the play follows the birth of America as the founding fathers struggle to craft the Declaration of Independence. Adults, $20; children ages 4 to 18 and seniors 60+, $18. Tickets available online or by calling 540-349-8760.

Remington Fall Festival
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14
East Main Street, Remington

The 36th annual fall festival features more than 80 vendors, a petting zoo, children’s activities and a duck race on the Rappahannock River. More than six hours of entertainment includes a karate demonstration, country music, southern rock, and a food court. The Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will also host its Fall Bash gun raffle. $20 for gun raffle tickets. Free admission.

22nd annual Fauquier Farm Tour
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14
Various locations throughout Southern Fauquier

Fauquier’s annual farm tour features seven stops with special tours, activities and demonstrations. The county’s 25 wineries, four breweries, five orchards, four corn mazes and six farmers’ markets will also welcome visitors on the self-guided tour. Free at most locations, except Messick’s Farm Market fall festival, which costs $10 per person.

YABBA book festival
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14
2 Courthouse Square, Warrenton

Allegro Center for the Arts presents a book festival for children, teens and adults. Local authors and illustrators will offer workshops and sign books around Old Town. Special guest, “Pete the Cat” author, Eric Litwin, will sing, play guitar and bring his books to life at Warrenton Middle School at 2 p.m. $5 per person in advance, $10 at the door for Eric Litwin performance. Free admission for Main Street authors.

Celebrate Orlean Day
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14
6855 Leeds Manor Road, Marshall

The village of Orlean celebrates its 202nd anniversary with an apple pie contest, music, local winery and brewery tastings, children’s entertainment, food, vendors, a youth art contest, and other activities. $5 per person; children 12 and younger, free.

Children’s Festival at Crockett Park
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14
10066 Rogues Road, Midland

The annual festival features various activities for children including bungee jumping, moon bounces, pony rides, face painting, sand art, crafts, a hay maze, hay rides and other options. Rain date: Sunday, Oct.15. $10 per vehicle for county residents. $17 per vehicle for non-county residents.

Marshall Regional Health Fair
12 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14
4133 Rectortown Road, Marshall

The Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department and Countryside Family Practice host the annual health fair at the Marshall Community Center. The event features health screenings, fitness demonstrations, children’s activities and giveaways. Free.
