Spring awakens Warrenton with renovations, blossoms

Photos by Cassandra Brown

Pear and magnolia blossoms stir in the cool breeze of a 73-degree day in Warrenton.

Even though spring break has sent some families packing, the town remains active.

Workers from Solar Solutions for All carefully mount solar panels on the Piedmont Environmental Council’s roof Wednesday afternoon.

A total of 38 panels will generate electricity for the non-profit’s headquarters at 45 Horner St.

On the fourth day of spring, John MeGee works on stained glass at First Baptist Church on Alexandria Pike.

Epiphany Studios out of Middletown will restore the windows over the next three weeks.

Michael Keaton loads topsoil into his truck at Rankin’s Hardware. He purchased three bags to repair his yard for the spring.

Digging in the dirt, volunteers Sarah Shilling and her daughter Cameron plant red cabbage at the Fauquier Education Farm just east of town.

“We like to come out and play in the dirt,” Ms. Shilling says.

Farm Coordinator Jim Hankins says, “We’ve set a goal of raising 50,000 pounds of food this year.”

Last year the farm raised 38,780 pounds for local food banks.

Spring officially started Sunday, March 20.
