“The Underpants”, Sunday sketch top best bets

Fauquier Community Theatre’s comedy “The Underpants” tops this weekend’s entertainment list.

Other weekend events include a documentary celebrating Black History Month, a writers and poets night in Warrenton and sketching in Middleburg.

The Fauquier Community Theatre presents Steve Martin’s “The Underpants.” A very public wardrobe malfunction becomes the talk of the town in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1910. Rated PG-13. “The Underpants” runs until Feb. 12. Adults, $16; seniors 60+ and children ages 3 to 18, $14. Tickets available online or by leaving a message at 540-349-8760.

Writers and poets night at Deja Brew
7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3

Writers and poets gather at this monthly event at DeJa Brew to share portions of their work for constructive advice. The group holds an open forum for reading followed by discussion. Co-hosted by the Piedmont Writers group.

Sunday with the library: “The Singing Stream” film
2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5

The Fauquier County Public Library celebrates Black History Month with a film showing of “The Singing Stream” at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. The documentary, by local filmmaker Tom Davenport, follows 100 years of African American history through on North Carolina family. Audience Q&A with the filmmaker will follow. Free. Inclement weather makeup date, Feb. 26.

Sunday Sketch in Middleburg
2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5
102 The Plains Road, Middleburg

The National Sporting Library and Museum hosts a free sketching session the first Sunday of each month. Attendees will receive tips on style, composition and other drawing aspects. February’s featured artist is Middleburg resident and art instructor, Alice Porter. Supplies provided.
