The aromas of leather, manure and horse sweat mix with the humidity of summer’s last gasp.

Neighs and sighs fill the air.

Well turned-out riders in show gear mount their beloved animals. Together, they move gracefully in carefully-practiced rhythm.

Hooves pound the dirt as magnificent steeds gallop around the show ring, gracefully clearing hurdles.

A village has popped up this week in temporary stables under large tents on the nine-acre parcel at 60 E. Shirley Ave. in Warrenton.

The 116th annual Warrenton Horse Show, which opened Wednesday morning, will run through Sunday.
