From press release

More than 300 volunteers from two Warrenton churches fanned out across the Fauquier area Saturday, Oct. 10, to conduct 42 service projects.

First Baptist Church and Warrenton Baptist Church organized the volunteer projects to encourage those in need and to express appreciation for their neighbors.

During he “Inasmuch United Day” of service, they conducted projects such as carpentry at the Boys and Girls Club, cutting firewood for winter heating, clothing drive and distribution, winterizing the community garden, making cookies for police and firemen, and delivering smoke alarms with the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Co.

Some assisted at nursing homes, including a group led by Bree Matthews at Amerisist, who took toiletry items and spent time singing with the residents. Young people ran a lemonade stand on Main Street to raise funds for People Helping People. Others helped FeedFauquier, FISH, the Fauquier Food Bank and the Fauquier Food Distribution Coalition.

Warrenton Police Lt. George Southard gave a community presentation at the First Baptist Church Life Center on drug abuse and addiction.

Carol Wilson, of Wilson’s Automotive, opened her shop, where volunteers conducted a car care clinic. Realtor and Warrenton Baptist Church member Dave Nash hosted a BBQ luncheon at Rady Park to honor veterans.

An apple picking group led by Theresa Hitt visited Williams Orchard and then assembled gift baskets for the homebound. Other projects included home repairs, knitting winter items for Head Start children, collecting winter items for the Department of Social Services, doing inventory for Community Touch in Bealeton and landscaping at Vint Hill Transitional Housing.

Some volunteers made dog toys for SPCA, offered prayer support, provided evangelism materials or made lunches for the workers.

The one-day event brought together people of all ages, races and cultures to work side-by-side in community service.
