Warrenton water slide, Bluemont jazz top best bets

Harmonious Wail performs in 2009 in Wisconsin. The gypsy jazz band will perform at a Bluemont summer concert in Warrenton Saturday night.
A giant water slide will delight children Saturday at the Warrenton Community Center.
The final weekend before Fauquier students head back to school features a few summer activities.

A giant, 4,000 square foot water slide at the Warrenton Community Center tops the list of entertainment options.

Other options include a gypsy jazz band at a Bluemont concert, a summer block party in Vint Hill and Bluegrass in Warrenton.

Summer block party at Vint Hill
5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11
4152 Aiken Drive, Warrenton

Vint Hill’s final block party of the summer features face painting, music, games, raffles, food from Covert Café and A la Carte Catering and other activities. Child and dog friendly. Free.

Splash and Slide
1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12
430 E. Shirley Ave., Warrenton

Children can enjoy slipping down a 40 by 100-foot water slide and throwing water balloons at this family fun event at the Warrenton Community Center. Free ice cream for the first 250 children. Sponsored by the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department. Free.

Bluemont concert: Harmonious Wail
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12
10 Hotel St., Warrenton

The Bluemont summer concert series presents Harmonious Wail playing a mixture of jazz, swing and gypsy music. The trio hails from Madison, Wisconsin and includes mandolin, guitar, bass and vocals. Audience members bring blankets and chairs to the lawn of the Warren Green Building at Culpeper and Hotel streets. Rain location: Taylor Middle School. $5 per person; $4 for Bluemont friends and seniors; $2 children ages 11 and younger.

Bluegrass jam at Eva Walker Park
2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13
130 Haiti St., Warrenton

Musicians who play the guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin dobro or bass will perform traditional Bluegrass music at Eva Walker Park. All levels of players welcome. Free.
