Fauquier County swimmers dive in the girls 50-meter freestyle during the Tr-County Swim League regional meet Friday night. Chestnut Forks Swim Club beat Fauquier Swim Club by 19.5 points to win the meet.
Tri-County Swim League concluded the regular season Friday night with its annual regional meet.
The marathon 6 ½-hour affair proved not only an endurance but closer than many thought possible.
Regular-season champion Chestnut Forks (5-0) scored 324 points, beating second-place Fauquier Swim Club by 19.5 points.
Culpeper Swim Club took third (245 points) followed by Orange Community (201 points) and Fauquier Springs Country Club, fifth with 98.5 points.
“The kids have worked hard these last eight weeks,” Chestnut Forks Coach Cherie Adair said. “(Friday) night all their hard work paid off. Many swimmers have been training to master their technique. For many, it all came together.”
Robert Blashill, head Coach for Fauquier Springs also had high praise for his swimmers.
“It was a great meet characterized by tremendous team spirit and sportsmanship,” Coach Blashill said. “They had huge improvements in time, winning events and swims faster than the all-star cuts.
Coach Blashill added he believes the FSCC members finally believe in what they can do.
“Parents, swimmers and coaches took this meet seriously,” Coach Blashill said. “I experienced a newly born culture of swimming at FSCC like never before.
“They showed me how much they loved the sport and I will always remember and treasure that moment.”
Tri-County's all-star competition concludes with a meet at Chestnut Forks Saturday.
