Best bets for weekend entertainment, June 14-16

1. Father's Day Car Show

  • Sunday, June 16
  • 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Old Town Warrenton

Last year, the show drew 228 vehicles, including antiques, classics, hot rods, motorcycles and tractors. The winner of a 2013 Scion FRS raffle will be announced. Admission is free. More information is available on the Greater Warrenton Chamber of Commerce website.


2. Dive-in Movie

  • Friday, June 14
  • 7 p.m.
  • Larry Weeks Community Pool at Vint Hill

Larry Weeks Community Pool will celebrate its 10th birthday with cupcakes, ice cream, swimming, games and a movie. Games will start at 7 p.m. and the movie Shark Tale will start at dusk. See the Larry Weeks Community Pool web page for admission fees.


3. Summer Reading Program Kickoff

  • Saturday, June 15
  • 11 a.m. at the John Barton Payne building in Warrenton
  • 1 p.m. at the Bealeton Library
  • 3 p.m. at the John Marshall Library

To keep kids motivated to read during the summer, this program offers engaging activities in addition to books. See the blog Library News and Events for more information.


4. Ladies’ Roller Derby Bout

  • Saturday, June 15
  • 7 p.m.
  • Rollerworks Family Skating Center, Bealeton

With names like Bomb Gnarly, Lewd Angel and Mistress Mayhem, the local Five 40 Roller Girls match up against the Kill Devil Derby Brigade from North Carolina. Tickets are $12 at Rollerworks or $10 if purchased online in advance (ages 8 and under free). Proceeds from this family-friendly bout go to the Rappahannock Area Council for Children and Parents.
