119th annual Warrenton Horse Show opens Aug. 29

The 119th annual Warrenton Horse Show kicks off this week at the show grounds along East Shirley Avenue in Warrenton.

The five-day show that runs Wednesday, Aug. 29, through Sunday, Sept. 2 offers exhibition classes in hunter, jumper, ladies sidesaddle and other categories.

Gates open at 8 a.m. daily, except for 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Dozens of board members and other volunteers help make the annual equestrian event possible.

This year’s highlights include two jumper classes on Thursday evening, the $5,000 Hunter Classic on Saturday and a tailgate competition and horn blowing exhibition during Hunt Night on Sunday.

The show also features a silent auction, beer concession stand, food and vendors.

Show participants can register at any time.

Admission is $10 per person at the gate. Children ages 12 and younger get in free.

Proceeds will benefit several charities including the Fauquier SPCA.
