3rd Fauquier wine tasting and competition Saturday

The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at Airlie.
The third annual Fauquier Wine Tasting & Competition Event will take place Saturday, Feb. 25, at Airlie.

Fourteen wineries will pour samples at the event, which the Fauquier County Department of Economic Development hosts.

Airlie’s chef will prepare small appetizers paired with a wine from each winery.

Participants will taste wines and cast votes for their favorites in the “People’s Choice” competition. In a separate area of Airlie House, three judges from the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association and the American Wine Society will taste and score those same wines in a competition.

The event will begin at11:30 a.m. with a wine industry professionals’ networking and social. Wine shop owners, caterers, restaurant owners, sommeliers, grocery chains and any other business representatives interested in selling Fauquier County may attend that portion of the event.

The public may participate in two of wine tasting sessions: from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m. Winners from both wine competitions will be announced during an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

The Elizabeth Lawrence Band and Leon Rector will provide music throughout the day. Wineries will sell their products.

Tickets are $35 per person, including a wine glass and six-bottle wine bag.

Airlie will offer an optional five-course dinner, with local wine pairings, after the event.
