Bank veterans reminisce ahead of branch closing

The Peoples National Bank of Warrenton veterans and years of service, front row (from left): Karen Miller (32 years), Gloria Buchanan (32), Regina Elam (2), Joanne Moffett (34) and Fay Jenkins (30); back row: Barbara Jenkins (35), Brenda Wines (32) and Nancy Clatterbuck (48). Not pictured: Faye Heflin (32).
The nine women collectively have 277 years of experience working at the bank that will close its Main Street Warrenton branch July 27.

They started at The Peoples National Bank of Warrenton. Then, PNB merged with Winchester-based F&M Bank in 1994. North Carolina-based BB&T purchased F&M eight years later.

BB&T in April announced it would close the branch at 21 Main St., where a bank has operated continuously since 1910.

The ladies, most of them retired, decided they should get together on Friday, June 22, to talk about old times, have lunch at Molly’s Irish Pub and celebrate the bank building’s history.

Move the US Post Office to this building, it has more parking, is better maintained, and has much more storage.
