Discounted Va. Gold Cup tickets for county residents
Fauquier residents can save $25 on general admission passes to the Virginia Gold Cup races Saturday, May 6, at Great Meadow.
Fauquier County residents may purchase discounted general admission passes for the 92nd
Virginia Gold Cup
steeplechase races Saturday, May 6, at Great Meadow, near The Plains.
Those who live in Fauquier may purchase up to two tickets for $75 each — a $25 discount. Each ticket will admit one vehicle with up to six people.
The discounted tickets are limited to two per household. Those passes provide entry only on the south side of Great Meadow, along Route 17.
“Please, read the back of the passes,” said Sarah Robb, Gold Cup’s ticket manager.
The discounted tickets require a valid ID and may be purchased at the Virginia Gold Cup office at 90 Main St. in Warrenton. The Gold Cup office will be open until 7 p.m. Friday, May 5.
Normal office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Harris Teeter also offers discounted general admission passes for $80 to VIC cardholders. The grocery also offers Members Hill badges for $44 each, a discount of $11.
The Virginia Gold Cup will feature eight races, starting at noon. Pari-mutuel betting again will be available. But, this year, betting will require cash. There will be no option for credit card use.
The May 6 schedule:
10 a.m. — Gates open to the public at Great Meadow.
11:30 a.m. — Jack Russell Terrier races.
Noon — Opening ceremony.
12:25 — Tailgate contest begins.
12:30 p.m. — First race, Sport of Kings Maiden Hurdle.
1:15 p.m. — Second Race, The Steeplethon.
2 p.m. — Third Race, The M.C. Dean Chase.
2:15 p.m. — Hat Contest begins at paddock.
2:45 p.m. — Fourth Race, The David Semmes Memorial.
3 p.m. — Tailgate and Hat Contest winners announced.
3:30 p.m. — Fifth Race, The Virginia Gold Cup.
4:15 p.m.— Sixth Race, The Secretariat Stakes.
4:45 p.m. — Seventh Race, Virginia Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association Allowance Flat.
5:15 p.m. — Eighth Race, The Virginia Bred or Sired Flat.
6:34 p.m. — Kentucky Derby post time.
7:15 p.m. — Gates close.
