Malynda Hale, a Fauquier High School student, received a silver medal at the national FCCLA conference last month.
Fauquier High School student Malynda Hale joined more than 7,500 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) student leaders, members and advisers at the annual national conference last month.

The leadership conference took place at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn., from July 2 to 6.

As a second-place winner at the state level in the nutrition and wellness category, Malynda participated at the national level in one of 30 events related to family and consumer sciences.

During the conference, Malynda made an electronic presentation describing her month-long nutrition and wellness plan and results and participated in an interview session with judges.

She received a silver medal and scholarship money for Fauquier High School’s FCCLA chapter.

“Qualifying for the national competition in Nashville was a great experience,” Malynda said. “My future goals include majoring in communications, and this experience allowed me to practice my public speaking as well as project and presentation creation.”

She enjoyed meeting many other FCCLA members from across the nation.

“The FCCLA enables students to prepare for life through many different program areas offered,” Malynda said. “FCCLA is a wonderful club with many areas of competition and scholarship opportunities.”
