High school students from Fauquier, Kettle Run, Liberty, Fresta Valley and Highland vied to convince judges and listeners that service to others promotes peace. The contest took place at Fauquier Springs Country Club.
For the first time, the Warrenton Rotary Club’s speech contest produced a tie for the winner. Lauren and Imogen each received $250. They will compete in a “Speak Off” to determine who represents the club in the area — and potentially district — competitions, with prizes of up to $1,000.
Christian Dudley of Fresta Valley received the second-place prize of $100.
An honor roll student, active in music, drama and health-related activities at Highland, Lauren plans to study nursing in college. Susan and Bill Bryan are her parents.
From Brechin, Scotland, Imogen is active in the color guard, music and recycling at FHS. She plans to study marketing management at Robert Gordon University in her home country. Don and Susan Schupp are her hosts this year in Fauquier.
