“Honest young leaders” for Warrenton’s future

By Yakir Lubowsky

I write in strong support of Sean Polster and Renard Carlos, two able and honest young leaders to take the town into its next generation. But I write also, specifically, to caution the community about Linda “Sunny” Reynolds’ quest to hold her seat on Warrenton’s town council.

In his first term, Mr. Polster’s has been a rare record of civic accomplishment and creative community generosity. Both he and Mr. Carlos offer a similar and positive path forward. On the other hand, Ms. Reynolds has been a persistent source of council’s dysfunction. With an apparent need to have influence in all things and to benefit her friends — mostly people in the real estate business, and the same folks who show up now in her current financial disclosure as funding her campaign — she has not served the interests of citizens.

Neither Mr. Polster nor Mr. Carlos has conflicts of interest or a rough style. Each of the gentlemen has proposed ways to address our Main Street, which is literally failing, while Ms. Reynolds — who held herself out as the business development candidate of the chamber of commerce when she ran four years ago — has no plan.

No matter whom you choose for mayor, you will want Mr. Polster and Mr. Carlos there supporting him/her with positive energy and ideas. Ms. Reynolds has a history of undermining competitive authority as she undermined Mayor Powell Duggan from the start. (Anyone wondering why the mayor, a good man, is retiring after one term?)

Mr. Polster and Mr. Carlos have been called honest and earnest, a good description. (Mr. Polster was an excellent colleague on the council, in all the ways Ms. Reynolds was not.) Vote these guys in and her out. Let’s get it right this time, for the sake of Warrenton’s future.

The writer served on the town council 2010-16.

Don't look for honor among whomever as the old saying goes. Fortunately Renard won and another bad apple on Council is gone. It is a shame another Bill Lineweaver has never been found to be Mayor and it appears to go from bad to worse.

This is the same Yak Lubowsky who was openly scornful of the citizens he represented - his nasty comments at Council meetings were condescending and unprofessional. I heard them myself, and therefore give ZERO credibility to his opinions expressed here. He’s a malcontent with an ax to grind, and nothing more.

I agree with most everything the author has written above. However, I would also expand the honest young leaders to include Grace for Mayor.
