Joell Kight named Virginia’s top 911 center director

Joell Kight received the Virginia Communications Director of the Year award for 2018.
The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center director has earned the top award among her peers statewide.

Joell Kight received the Virginia Communications Director of the Year award for 2018. The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials honored Ms. Kight Thursday, May 9, in Virginia Beach.

APCO focuses on public safety communications expertise, professional development, technical assistance, advocacy and outreach.

Ms. Kight joined the local office in 1997, and Sheriff Bob Mosier in 2017 appointed her director of the Emergency Communications Division. Before her promotion to director of the 9-1-1 center, Ms. Kight “was instrumental in helping the center obtain APCO P33 certification for training standards,” Sheriff Mosier. “This certification plays a vital role in keeping agencies up-to-date with procedures and training programs.”

Ms. also graduated from the APCO Certified Public-Safety Executive Course.

“We are very proud of Joell and all of our public safety telecommunicators,” Sheriff Mosier said. “They are a vital part of our mission, and Joell’s leadership has been instrumental in the professional development of staff in service to the community.”
