Local girl earns spot at USA Football camp in Atlanta

A wide receiver, Haley plans to play football at Kettle Run High School, where she will start her freshman year in August.
Haley Van Voorhis, 13, of The Plains, recently competed in the U.S. National Team Football Middle School Development Games in Atlanta.
The invitation-only program selects athletes on the basis of outstanding skills, leadership and character. Participants train with U.S. National Team coaches — from colleges, top high schools and the ranks of NFL alumni. Young players from across the nation competed in daily practices, 7-on-7 scrimmages, jamborees and modified games.

The development games represent a significant step on the path to possibly playing on the U.S. National Team.
After attending the Washington, D.C., USA Football Regional Development Camp in the spring, Haley received an invitation to compete in Atlanta as a wide receiver. Among approximately 200 participants, she was the only girl at the D.C. regional development camp. The Atlanta camp drew 196 boys — and Haley.
Whenever asked what she liked best, Haley typically says: “Football, I got to play football, and I love football.”
She has played Fauquier Youth Flag Football since fifth grade, and has played Fauquier Youth Tackle Football for three seasons, since sixth grade.

The daughter of Heidi and Chandler Van Voorhis, Haley in August will start her freshman year at Kettle Run High School, where she plans to play football. She has wanted to be an NFL player since she could walk and talk. Haley has played soccer, lacrosse, basketball, tennis, baseball, flag football and, of course, tackle football.
USA Football designs and delivers educational, developmental and competitive programs to advance and grow the sport. As the sport’s national governing body, a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee and organizer of the U.S. National Team for international competition, USA Football partners with leaders in medicine, child advocacy and athletics to support positive football experiences for youth, scholastic and other amateur players.
