The FROGbots robotics team (in green shirts) and supporters celebrate their second-place finish in the state competition Feb. 25.
The FROGbots, a Warrenton robotics team of Christian middle school and high school students, finished second recently at the state competition.

The team qualified for the Eastern Super-Regional robotics championship March 17-19 in Scranton, Pa.

More than 50 robots battled it out at the FIRST Tech Challenge Virginia Championship on Feb. 25 in Lynchburg.

FROGbots members design, build, program code, conduct community outreach, raise funds and compete for awards earned during robotics competitions. Other awards are based on the team’s engineering notebook, which documents how it designed and built the robot. Students learn about professionalism, strategy, communications, outreach and planning, in addition to STEM skills while building robots and competing.

For the first time in the team’s seven-year history, the FROGbots will be one of 12 teams from Virginia heading to the FTC Super-Regional East. Seventy-two teams from Maine to West Virginia will compete for an opportunity to advance to the FTC World Championship in St. Louis, Mo.

The team seeks sponsors to help fund its trip. For more information, visit

FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology), is a not-for-profit organization that promotes STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in Grades 7-12.
