D. Richard and May Lou Embrey recently purchased The Red Thread, which Barbara Slaton founded in 2011.
Walking into Warrenton's yarn shop at the end of April, he immediately liked the store and knew within a few minutes that he would buy it.
“It just felt right,” D. Richard Embrey said of The Red Thread on South Fifth Street.
Mr. Embrey and his wife Mary Lou officially took over the shop in early May from Barbara Slaton, whose family is moving to Colorado. Ms. Slaton had owned the yarn shop since 2011 and had developed a large and loyal customer base.
Mr. Embrey has been crocheting for more than 40 years and tatting for 4-1/2 years. In the past couple of years he began learning bobbin lace-making. Mrs. Embrey, who also crochets, is the knitter in the family.
“My mom taught me how to crochet and knit when I was very young; so let’s say about 50 years ago,” Mrs. Embrey said. “I haven’t done a lot of knitting lately, but I plan to get back in the swing of things with the fabulous collection of yarns we sell.”
The new owners conducted a grand re-opening of The Red Thread in May. They will continue to offer classes.
