Middle and high school students practice during the steel drum camp last summer at FHS.
Fauquier High School’s steel drum program will host the first NOVA PANFest on Friday, April 13.
The daylong event will conclude with a concert at 6:30 p.m. at Carousel Frozen Treats, 346 Waterloo St., Warrenton.
The school’s Talons of Steel Pans have been performed in the community for the last six years. The program, an offering of the Fauquier High School Band and Falcon Band Organization, has grown to more than 20 students and three performing groups. They will host NOVA PANFest 2018.
This year’s event will features FHS students with special guest Keith Moone from Mannette Musical Instruments, the company started by the father of the modern steel pan, Ellie Mannette. Mr. Moone built some of the instruments on which the FHS students practice and perform.
On Friday, Mr. Moone will work with the students on advancing their playing techniques and showing how steel pans are made.
