VDOT plans $4.8-million bridge rehabilitation at Remington

VDOT plans to spend $4.8 million to rehabilitate the 1930 truss bridge over the Rappahannock River at Remington.
The Virginia Department of Transportation conducted an Oct. 16 public hearing on the proposed $4.8-million rehabilitation of the old highway bridge at Remington.

The hearing took place in the Remington Volunteer Fire Department station.

VDOT proposes to rehabilitate the existing truss bridge over the Rappahannock River on Business Route 15 (Remington Road).

The project would replace the bridge deck, improve the approach spans on each end of the span and rehabilitate select truss members. The truss would remain in place during construction.

VDOT considers the bridge, built in 1930, as structurally deficient. It has a posted 11-ton weight restriction.

That section of Business Route 15 will close to through traffic during the estimated nine-month construction period.

The proposed detour will use Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) to Route 651 (Freemans Ford Road/West Main Street).

The project would start in late 2019 and run into mid-2020, according to VDOT.

The public hearing will provide an opportunity to give VDOT comments and/or suggestions regarding the proposed project.

I think we've wasted a half million in meetings just talking about it.
Fix the bridge, it's the right thing to do for the historical valve and it's just a cool bridge.
Fix it right and get on with it!
