Road closures near Calverton next week

The Virginia Department of Transportation will close several roads near Calverton starting Monday, Oct. 1.

A construction crew will replace a stormwater pipe on Route 28 next week causing several road closures.

Road closures will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 through Friday, Oct. 5.

“Drivers should follow signs and traffic controls as they approach the work zone and be alert for workers and equipment moving in and out of the work area,” according to a VDOT press release.

Closures are scheduled on the following roads:

• Route 616 (Bristersburg Road) closed between Route 28 and Route 642 (Old Calverton Road), Monday, Oct. 1 through Thursday, Oct. 4.

Detour set up on Route 642 (Old Calverton Road).

• Route 28 reduced to one lane, Wednesday, Oct. 3.

• Route 603 (Bastable Mill Road) closed from Route 28 to H.M. Pearson Elementary School, Thursday, Oct. 4 and Friday, Oct. 5.

Traffic detoured to Route 28 at Catlett using Route 667 (Old Dumfries Road).
