Russian connection needs impartial investigation

By Warren Darrell

This letter is from the Fauquier Democratic Committee Civil and Political Rights Group.

How did the Russian government meddle in our 2016 presidential election?

Could something similar occur in the future?

Did any Americans collaborate or remain silent?

We must ensure that our elections are fair, and justice demands that we discover what happened and who was involved.

The unclassified version of the Jan. 6, 2017 “Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent U.S. Elections” by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, concludes that “… Putin and the Russian Government aspired to help … Trump’s election chances…” and, in the event of a Clinton victory, “…undermining her future presidency”. “CIA and FBI have high confidence in this judgment; NSA has moderate confidence. ….Further information …. since early November 2016, increases our confidence in our assessments…”

On Jan., Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.) said the U.S. intelligence community’s October 2016 report, “raised profound concerns.”

Subsequently, the circumstances of Gen. Flynn’s resignation, the committee’s request that the administration preserve related records and press reports that FBI counter-intelligence agents are investigating communication between the Trump campaign and the Russian government further indicate the need for investigation.

Investigation by congressional committees can be biased by the majority party leadership; independent select committee investigations are preferable. Some senators, including Mr. Warner support an investigation by the committee. Others, such as Walter Jones (R-N.C.) favor an independent commission. Let’s watch how they sort it out.

The investigations must be thorough. We don’t yet know the entire scope of Russian interference and possible American collaboration. The investigators need the authority to subpoena evidence and compel testimony. Sen. Susan Collins (R‑Maine) has stated that she wants ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn to testify, and that the Senate Intelligence Committee may want to subpoena President Trump’s tax returns.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions must recuse himself in favor of a non‑partisan independent counsel. Mr. Sessions has close ties to candidate and President Trump and thus has a potential conflict of interest. Title 28 of the U.S. Code bars federal prosecutors from participating in a criminal investigation if they have “a personal or political relationship with someone involved.”

In addition, there is the appearance that the FBI acted with political bias during the 2016 presidential campaign. Measures must be taken to insure that FBI investigations are thorough and unbiased.

A successful investigation is possible. Successful past investigations include the Senate Watergate Committee and the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (the 9/11 commission).

Take action. Contact your elected representatives: Virginia Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and Reps. Tom Garrett (5th District, northern Fauquier) and Rob Wittman (1st District, southern Fauquier), and insist that they put country before party and support proper investigations.

Desparate democrats, trying to deligitimize the election, continue to try and distract the people with fake news to keep the public attention off the real story.

For starters look here:
...and here:

I knew the shrill cries from the left would be bad, and with each passing day my predictions continue to become reality. Think it's bad now? You ain't seen nothing yet! There's no lie they will not promote, no person they will not slander, no law they will not break, no part of the constitution they will not ignore, to order advance thier vision of a socialist utopia. "Rules For Radicals" is thier sacred bible, and Saul Alinski is thier profit.

Get ready friends... this fight is for all the marbles
