Fauquier students win recycling art contest

Second grader Laney Gray won first prize at Brumfield Elementary for this recycling art poster.
More than 1,000 students from ten public schools participated in the Fauquier County Recycling Committee’s art contest.

The contest promoted awareness and educated students and the community about recycling.

All entries will be on display at the All County Arts Festival, 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 24 and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at Liberty High School.

At each school, a selection committee chose the top artwork at from each grade level to submit for division-wide judging.

Then, representatives from the Fauquier County Recycling Committee and school board office staff selected the following contest winners:

Kindergarten: first, Lulu Polifko, Brumfield Elementary School; second, Zoe Heller, Greenville Elementary School; honorable mention, Kyle Sorenson, Pearson Elementary School.

First grade: first, Noah Lunsford, Greenville Elementary School; second, Rylee Hopkins, Pearson Elementary School; honorable mention, Riley Min, Greenville Elementary School.

Second grade: first, Laney Gray, Brumfield Elementary School; second, Gabrielle Rinaldi, Smith Elementary School; honorable mention, Sebastian Ruvalcaba-Espinoza, Bradley Elementary School.

Third grade: first, Morgan Baker, Pierce Elementary School; second, Julie Green, Brumfield Elementary School; honorable mention, Addie Hazlehurst, Brumfield Elementary School.

Fourth grade: first, Mikayla Pompell, Pierce Elementary School; second, McKenna Cupka, Pierce Elementary School; honorable mention, Danna Ruvalcaba-Espinoza, Bradley Elementary School.

Fifth grade: first, Gabriella DeLaCruz, Bradley Elementary School; second, Deanne Rowley and Madeline Fox, Brumfield Elementary School; honorable mention, Alex Parks, Pearson Elementary School.

Sixth grade: first, Josephine VanCamp, Warrenton Middle School; second, Gracie Garretson, Marshall Middle School; honorable mention, Kaitlyn MacWelch, Marshall Middle School.

Seventh grade: first, Andrew Hupp, Cedar Lee Middle School; second, Mattie Heflin and Bindi Patel, Warrenton Middle School; honorable mention, Mavryck Mora, Marshall Middle School.

Eighth grade: first, Sammy Leach, Cedar Lee Middle School; second, Hannah Singleton, Marshall Middle School; honorable mention, Samantha Mroz, Warrenton Middle School.
