Workshop features ways to improve garden soil

"Lazy Bed Production" workshop will take place Thursday, May 30.
The Fauquier Education Farm next week will host a free workshop on simple techniques to get the most out of garden soil.

Open to all, the two-hour “Lazy Bed Production” workshop will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 30, at the farm along Meetze Road just southeast of Warrenton.

“A thick bed of hay or straw mulch can be one of your most valuable gardening tools,” farm Executive Director Jim Hankins, who will present the program, said in a press release. “It will help suppress weeds, conserve moisture, increase your soil biodiversity and even add nutrients for future crops.”

The practices also “eliminate a lot of work,” Mr. Hankins said in an interview.

Participation in the workshop, which will take place rain or shine, requires no registration, he added.

For more information, Mr. Hankins can be reached at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
