“Fresh Bucks” bringing new customers to farm market

The Warrenton Farmers Market has a monthly “Kids Day.”
By Roger Kilby

With my wife Mary, I am a vendor Warrenton Farmers Market both Wednesdays and Saturdays and would like to take a moment to share our experiences with the “Fresh Bucks” program that, as I understand, is funded by a PATH Foundation grant.

We, and I feel I can speak for several of my vendor friends as they have told me how they also feel about the program, have seen a significant increase in business due to Fresh Bucks. The “Kids Day at the Market” draws a very large crowd, which is obviously great for sales.

However, even more importantly, we are witnessing children get truly excited about coming to shop at the market. We have had so many parents express their children’s joy at learning about local food as well as the process of handling money and making wise purchases.

We have seen kids of various ages discussing their purchasing decisions, how to handle money and just sharing.

All the parents we have observed have helped guide their children while empowering them to make their own decisions.

We even have had parents comment that they had “never been to a farmer’s market” before bringing their children, thanks to the Fresh Bucks program.

This brief email can not express enough our thanks as parents, vendors and community members for all those who have made Fresh Bucks possible.
I especially wish to thank Susanne Brose for all her efforts.

Please keep up the good work!

FCCC took their camp to this Wednesdays farmers market and I was honored to get a chance to be a part of it. The children were so excited to get fresh fruit and vegetables and honey. A few even got a flower for their moms. Thank you for this great experience the children were genuinely excited to eat their fruits and vegetables. My son wanted to get stuff to make a salad for dinner. We purchased a roast from Glory Hill farm. We're excited to have that for dinner but it's nice to see families come together again.
