Ian Spencer Bell earns Sarah Lawrence degree

Mr. Bell continues to dance and teach ballet.
Mrs. John (Linda) Wine of Marshall is proud to announce the graduation of her son Ian Spencer Bell from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y.

Mr. Bell earned a bachelor of arts degree with a concentration in poetry, all the while serving as a teaching artist for American Ballet Theatre in New York City and artist in residence at the Nightingale-Bamford School on the Upper East Side. He also has a dance company that performs in the city.

Mr. Bell’s plan had always been to dance until his knees or his ankles gave out, and then go to college. Thankfully, he didn't wait that long, and graduated at the ripe old age of 34.

Mr. Bell’s don at Sarah Lawrence steered him toward poetry because he writes well and it is hoped he will produce a lot of critical reviews. Poetry will add another dimension to his writing.

Mr. Bell graduated on Friday of Memorial Day weekend and on that Sunday, he flew to Los Angeles for ABT to teach dance to underprivileged children in Watts.

He previously graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts and spent his summers studying at the School of American Ballet. Mr. Bell also trained and performed with Pacific Northwest Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet. In 2001, he was awarded a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts for his choreography.

Mr. Bell does not believe you should have to pay to enjoy dance, so he puts a lot of performances on YouTube.
