A history professor will discuss his research of slave housing — including some in Fauquier — during a free lecture at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in Warrenton.

Dr. Douglas Sanford researched a log slave building at Weston Farmstead in Casanova. The University of Mary Washington professor will explain how he and Dr. Dennis Pogue “placed the structure within an overview of Virginia slave housing through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.”

The Warrenton Antiquarian Society will host Tuesday’s lecture at the Warrenton-Fauquier Visitor Center at 33 N. Calhoun St.

Dr. Sanford teaches archaeology and historic preservation courses at UMW. He has written extensively about slave housing in Virginia.
