Alvin D. Byler, 87, of Grove City, Minn., died Monday, September 25, 2017.
He was born on June 6, 1930, in New Wilmington, Pa., to the late Daniel H. and Lena J. Detweiler Byler.
He grew up in New Wilmington, where he received his education. He was united in marriage with Anna Mary Byler in Catlett on December 13, 1952. This union was blessed with 13 children. Mrs. Byler passed away on September 17, 1991. They shared in 38 years of marriage before her death.
On January 9, 1993, Mr. Byler married Fannie Yoder in McVeytown, Pa. They made their home in rural Grove City, Minn.
Mr. Byler was a faithful minister of the gospel for more than 50 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and loved them all very much. He was a farmer, carpenter and businessman.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Fannie; his children, Cora Marie Coblentz and husband David of Millersburg, Ohio, Elsie Mae Reese and husband Tom of Warrenton, Loretta Fern Beachy and husband Simon of Itasca, Texas, Alvin Leroy Byler and wife Rhonda of Remington, Michael Ray Byler and wife Wendy of Middleburg, Pa., Barbara Alice Kauffman and husband Kenneth of Huntsville, Ark., Lydia Ann Hornick and husband Oliver of Hagerstown, Md., Daniel Stephen Byler and wife Diane of Catlett, William Henry Byler and wife Dorcas of Brevard, S.C., David Larry Byler and wife Kay of Grantsville, Md., Twila Faye and husband John of Belleville, Pa., and Mary Lucinda and husband Jerry of Casanova; 44 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; his stepchildren: Marvin Miller and wife Neva of Grove City, Minn., Lucille Miller of Grove City, Minn., Freeman Miller and wife Aimee of Levelland, Texas, Mark Chupp and wife Frieda of Eden Valley, Minn., Dennis Miller and wife Naomi of Curtiss, Wis., Daryl Miller and wife Kay of Paynesville, Minn., Joseph Miller and wife Regina of Eden Valley, Minn., and Jason Yutzy and wife Julia of Grove City, Minn; 38 step grandchildren; 19 step great-grandchildren; his his sister, Ada Beachy, and many nieces, nephews, in laws, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Lena Byler; his first wife of 39 years, Anna Mary; their son, Kenneth Allen; a grandchild, Michael Irving Byler; a step grandchild, Benjamin John Miller, and siblings, Harvey Byler, Sylvia Beachy and Henry Byler.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 30, at Faith Christian Fellowship, 3005 Dumfries Road, Catlett. The funeral will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 1, at Oak Shade Baptist Church, 3287 Old Catlett Road, Catlett, with interment immediately following at Faith Christian Fellowship.
