Darlene Louise Nielsen, 72, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Haymarket Medical Center.
She was born December 5, 1945, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, to the late Jesse Benningfield and Geneva Bailey.
Mrs. Nielsen spent the early years of her life in various towns in Montana, graduating from Custer County High School in Miles City. Not long after graduation, she married and moved to Washington State, where her two sons were born. In the late 1970s she and her family moved to Casper, Wyoming, where she lived for many years.
Upon her husband’s retirement, they eventually relocated to western Washington State to be closer to the majority of their families. After her husband’s death in 2011, Mrs. Nielsen moved to the East Coast to be closer to her sons and their families. She eventually settled in Gainesville, where she made many friends in her church and apartment complex.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, her husband of 46 years, Robert R. Nielsen, and two sisters, Betty Bonogofsky and Bonnie Benningfield.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Nielsen and wife Christina of Warrenton and Douglas Nielsen and wife Kathryn of Rogersville, Tennessee; two siblings, her beloved brother Richard Bailey and wife Lavonne of Tenino, Washington, and Essie Petty and husband John of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and two grandchildren, Brittany Nielsen and J.D. Nielsen.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, March 23, when the service will begin at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment at a later date at Grand Mound Cemetery in Rochester, Washington, with her husband, Robert.
