Eleanor Grohs Burton, 83, of Calverton, died peacefully on February 2, 2018 at home.
She was born in Midland on October 9, 1934, a daughter of Carl Henry Grohs and Janet Price Grohs.
Mrs. Burton was a dairy farmer and a 4-H leader for more than 40 years. She was also active with the Fauquier County Fair and served on the fair board for many years. The fair board each year awards a $1,000 scholarship, named for Mrs. Burton, to a local high school graduate. As a member of Midland United Methodist Church, she was also active with its women’s group.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, David Earle Burton Sr., on December 22, 2017.
Survivors include two children, Merelyn Shellington and David Earle Burton Jr. and his wife, Lisa Field Burton; two sisters, Lucy Walbroehl and Virginia Worman; a brother, Conrad Grohs; six grandchildren; David E. Burton III, Heather E. Brooks, Andrew Douglas Burton, Joseph Henry Burton, Anthony Shellington and Chris Shellington, and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Midland Cemetery.
