George Latham Payne Sr., 93, of Warrenton, passed away on September 17, 2018.
He was born August 29, 1925, in Warrenton, to the late Paul and Eunice Ball Payne.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Payne served in the U.S. Marine Corps from April 1944 to 1946. During that time, he and all five of his brothers actively served in the military services.
He was employed at Tom Frost Ford in Warrenton from 1947 to 1957 and retired from the U.S. government at the Warrenton Training Center in 1993.
He was a lifetime member of the Warrenton Baptist Church, which he served as a deacon and treasurer. Mr. Payne was also an avid Redskins fan and former member of the Virginia Golfers Association and the Fauquier Springs Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice Ramey Payne; his two sons and their wives, George L. “Choo-Choo” Payne, Jr. and Shelley Payne of Keswick, and Kenneth and Elaine Payne of Warrenton, and four grandchildren, Austin, Marshall, Bennett and Miranda.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anna, and his brothers, Paul, Raymond, Granville, John and Bud.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, when the service will begin at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Rev. Jay Lawson and Rev. Douglas Harris will officiate. Interment will follow at the Warrenton Cemetery.
