Hazel Irene Grubbs Cooke, 98, of Warrenton, died on Aug. 31, 2017.
She was born on April 4, 1919, at White Post in Clarke County, to the late Howard Grubbs and Daisy Orndoff Grubbs.
Mrs. Cooke was a former longtime employee at Peebles Department Store in Warrenton and its predecessor, Southern Department Store. She also was a longtime member of the Warrenton Assembly of God.
Survivors include her son, Donald Cooke of Marshall, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Cooke; her children, Elizabeth Jean Cooke, Patricia C. Leming, James E. Cooke Jr., Margaret Potter and Robert S. Cooke, and her siblings, Raymond H. Grubbs, Katherine DeHaven and Hilda Combs.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. The service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Green Hill Cemetery in Stephens City.

I will miss Hazel. She and my Mom were good friends and Mom spent many hours in Peebles shopping and being helped by Hazel. Go with God and rest in peace.
