John Thomas Sekelsky, 94, of Warrenton, formerly of Croton on Hudson, N.Y., passed away on September 29, 2017.
He was born April 1, 1923, in Johnsonburg, Pa., to Andrew and Anna Sekelsky.
Mr. Sekelsky was an artist, enthusiastic accordionist and avid photographer. He flew combat missions as a B-17 radio operator in the U.S. Army Air Corps 487th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, from April 1943 until October 1945 during World War II. He was active in his bomb group reunions and attended veterans’ activities in Croton and Warrenton. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus at Holy Name of Mary Church, and he volunteered with scouting and Salvation Army fundraising. He was honored as the Knights of Columbus Man of the Year in 2010.
Survivors include his loving children, Robert (Cheryl), Anne, Andrew, David and Alan (Diane)=; cherished grandchildren, Alec, Ellie and Ian, and by his sister, Annette.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Elsie Elizabeth Hamilton Sekelsky in November 1995.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 14, at Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton on Hudson, N.Y. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, also in Croton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Honor Flight (honorflight.org), which transports America’s veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends.
