Kay Palmer, 78, of Warrenton, formerly of Blacksburg, died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Prince William Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Rockford, Ill., and was the only child of Claus and Ruth Kriens.
She attended college at Beloit College in Wisconsin, graduating with a bachelor’s degree, and taught middle school for several years in the suburbs of Chicago.
Mrs. Palmer was an avid reader, who loved spending time with her family and doting on her grandchildren. She enjoyed gourmet cooking, swimming, sewing and cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Gerald “Jerry” Palmer; a son, Mark Palmer; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Buddy Riggleman, and two grandchildren, Mallie Riggleman and Jack Riggleman.
A private memorial service will be held at Saint James’ Episcopal Church in Warrenton.
